Vaseline launches skin-whitening Facebook app for India – Yahoo! News

NEW DELHI (AFP) –
Skincare group Vaseline has introduced a skin-lightening application for Facebook in India, enabling users to make their skin whiter in their profile pictures.

The download is designed to promote Vaseline's range of skin-lightening creams for men, a huge and fast-growing market driven by fashion and a cultural preference for fairer skin.

The widget promises to “Transform Your Face On Facebook With Vaseline Men” in a campaign fronted by Bollywood actor Shahid Kapur, who is depicted with his face divided into dark and fair halves.

“We started campaign advertising (for the application) from the second week of June and the response has been pretty phenomenal,” Pankaj Parihar from global advertising firm Omnicom, which designed the campaign, told AFP.

In 2005, Indian cosmetics giant Emani launched the first skin-whitening cream for men, called “Fair and Handsome”, 27 years after the first cream for women.

Since then a half dozen foreign brands have piled into the market for men, including Garnier, L'Oreal and Nivea, which promote the seemingly magical lightening qualities of their products in ubiquitous advertising.

In 2009, a poll of nearly 12,000 people by online dating site Shaadi.com, revealed that skin tone was considered the most important criteria when choosing a partner in three northern Indian states.

Facial Skin Care Routine?

I have these really strange but small bumps on the corners of my jaw (on my face) and my skin is always dry. I use mud masks and then Loreal Go 360 Clean scrub face wash and then any lotion.. but i've been doing that for 2 months and the bumps are still there and the same. My skin is still dry too. Many people question the need for African American skin care products and those for other dark skinned ethnicities, as we tend to assume that one person’s skin is the same as the next excluding variations in color. The truth is that different ethnicities often have unique problems, or issues to which they are more prone. African American skin does have its own specific needs.

One of the things that there is a high incidence of is acne, which is caused in part by excessive oil production. What happens is that the excess oil combines with dead keratin cells to form a tight plug in your follicles. The formation of pimples, pustules, and papules comes when the commensal Propionibacterium acnes bacteria causes inflammation to form in the blocked follicle.

Since acne is a common problem in people of all skin colors, there is really no need for a special African American skin care anti acne formula. No matter what your race or skin tone, you want to be careful about the various acne fighting formulas on the market. Most of them will cause minor to severe irritation and drying, and many feature ingredients that are potentially toxic or carcinogenic.

Skin Care Treatment for oily skin?

Ok well I was wondering what skin care treatment you find that works the best for breakouts, whiteheads, oily, and red skin? I've been using proactive, but that just makes my skin more red. I've tried the past three products that they've came out with, and even the newest one still doesn't help me that much. Sadly the cheap easy products don't work that good for me either. Right now price does not matter for me so I was just wondering what products you find that work best for you, if your skin is similar to mine in some way.
